Jungle Power is reshaping how industries approach clean energy by offering practical and cost-effective alternatives to traditional generators. Founded by Mark Naidoo, formerly of Creamsource. The company creates accessible solutions for diverse needs, including powering film sets, construction sites, remote locations, and emergency operations.
The company aims to address common concerns about the cost and complexity of renewable energy systems. Its range of products includes portable solar-powered units, 5KW portable power stations, and 80KW energy storage systems. These solutions are supported by Jungle Power’s TigerLinq energy management system, which is designed to optimize power usage for various applications.
Recognized by California’s Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE) program, Jungle Power’s technology has been validated for its role in reducing emissions and promoting zero-emission practices. For instance, the J80 hybrid solution has been used on construction projects to significantly lower emissions while also offering long-term cost savings compared to diesel alternatives.
Focusing on industries such as media and entertainment, construction, and live events, Jungle Power combines technology with a commitment to sustainability. As renewable energy costs, including lithium-ion batteries, continue to decrease, the company is focused on ensuring these savings are reflected in its offerings.
Jungle Power’s mission is straightforward: to make clean energy practical and affordable for a wide range of users. By prioritizing accessible and reliable solutions, the company is helping industries transition to more sustainable energy practices.
Digital Studio India spoke to the CEO, Mark Naidoo, to understand Jungle Power’s sustainable clean power solutions and how they intend to transform energy storage and distribution for media and entertainment.
What inspired Jungle Power to focus on clean energy for media and entertainment?
We saw a significant gap in sustainable energy options for the film and media industry. Productions often rely on combustible generators, which are noisy, pollutive, and can disrupt the creative environment on set. Jungle Power was inspired by the idea that the industry could operate in a more eco-friendly, quieter, and reliable way. We wanted to bring clean energy solutions that are not only effective and efficient, but also reduce the carbon footprint of each production.
How do Jungle Power products like the JKD Solar Marquee and J5 Power Station help productions be more eco-friendly?
Both the JKD Solar Marquee and the J5 Power Station are designed to reduce dependency on fuel by harnessing renewable energy. The JKD captures solar energy, making it a sustainable solution, especially for video village and various production services, while the J5 provides portable, silent, and emission-free power on demand. Together, they enable productions to operate with minimal environmental impact and help meet sustainability goals.
What does CORE certification mean for Jungle Power and its customers?
Being on the CORE California eligible hardware list is a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility and quality. For our customers, it’s a mark of trust—knowing they’re using products that have passed rigorous standards for sustainability, durability, and energy efficiency. It also means our products are better suited for their goals of reducing emissions and transitioning to greener energy sources.
How do your products integrate solar and wind energy on set?
Our products are built with adaptable technology that allows integration with renewable energy sources like solar and wind. The J5 Power Station can charge directly from the JKD and its solar panels, while larger setups like our J80 can incorporate wind such as the Uprise Energy solutions, which are currently being used in Fiji. The result is a hybrid system that continuously powers the set without relying on traditional fuels. It’s all about flexibility and maximizing renewable energy capture on site.
How does Jungle Power handle the energy needs of large productions in remote locations?
For large productions, we provide modular, scalable energy solutions that can be customized to the power requirements of any remote location. The J5 units can be used individually or in clusters for three phase requirements, and we can bring in additional renewable sources like mobile solar arrays or wind turbines such as the Uprise Energy solution. Our larger system, the J80, is capable of dealing with larger loads delivering 125A. It performs exceptionally as a hybrid solution, reducing fuel consumption by 80% where diesel generators are used. We work closely with production teams to ensure they have reliable power, no matter where they’re filming.
What makes Jungle Power’s generators quieter and easier to maintain than traditional ones?
Our generators, like the J5, are powered by advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, which are inherently quiet and emission-free. Without the complex engine systems found in traditional generators, our units have fewer maintenance needs, making them ideal for on-set usage. This quiet, low-maintenance approach also improves efficiency by eliminating noise and fuel-related downtime.
How can Jungle Power help productions go green without sacrificing efficiency?
Our solutions are specifically designed to balance sustainability with performance. The J5 Power Station, for instance, delivers high, continuous output, making it a reliable power source. By using renewable energy and durable battery technology, we enable productions to operate with the same efficiency they’re used to but without the carbon cost. Productions can meet their sustainability goals while staying productive, reducing cable runs, noise and staying on schedule.
Do you have any examples of Jungle Power’s impact on recent productions?
We’ve supported several productions recently that have seen drastic reductions in their carbon footprint. One example was the Jungle Power launch film “The Brutal Alchemy of Water” produced by and starring Sarah Huston, directed by Cameron Zayec, and Cinematography by Matt Davies. Where our solar-integrated Marquee enabled them to operate almost entirely off renewable energy for the day scenes, delivering a consistent feed to the J5. We’re proud to support more projects as sustainability becomes a key focus in the industry.
How is the media and entertainment industry adapting to meet sustainability goals and reduce its environmental footprint?
The industry is increasingly aware of its environmental impact and is actively seeking greener alternatives. We’re seeing more studios and production companies commit to carbon reduction, and they’re becoming early adopters of renewable energy technology. From virtual production to sustainable energy solutions, the industry is embracing ways to operate more responsibly and transparently.
What are some of the biggest challenges for adopting sustainable practices on film sets and production sites?
One major challenge is the initial cost and logistics of transitioning to renewable energy, especially in remote locations where setups can be complex. Another hurdle is the need for real-time power reliability; renewable systems have to be robust and consistent to meet the demands of a production schedule. Education and demonstration are essential to show how sustainable practices can meet these requirements effectively.
