The prestigious FilmLight Colour Awards are back for the fourth consecutive year in 2024, introducing an additional category dedicated to rising talent. Scheduled to be presented at EnergaCAMERIMAGE in November, the awards are independently judged by a panel of prominent creatives, cinematographers, and colorists.
In a bid to spotlight and support young talent, the new ‘Emerging Talent’ award will recognize and celebrate the work of colorists aged 18 to 35 who have contributed to a commercial or music video project aired between September 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024.
Jacqui Loran, co-director at FilmLight, emphasizes the importance of nurturing the next generation of colorists, stating, “The next generation of colorists is critical to the future of our industry. We have introduced this award to help support and encourage these emerging young talents – shining a light on their work and helping them to form a path into the industry.”
The new category joins the existing five, including theatrical feature, television series/episodic, commercial, music video, and Spotlight, which recognizes colorists contributing to the creative impact of a low-budget feature.
The awards, led and organized by FilmLight in partnership with EnergaCAMERIMAGE, have received acclaim since their integration into the festival program in 2021. Marek Žydowicz, EnergaCAMERIMAGE Founder and Director, expresses enthusiasm for the ongoing collaboration, stating, “We continue to receive positive feedback about our joint efforts to shine a light on the work of the colorist and their invaluable collaboration with the cinematographer. We can’t wait to do it again this year.”
In 2024, FilmLight welcomes four new supporting partners: ShotDeck (a fully-searchable cinematic image library), AMC (Mexican Society of Cinematographers), BVK (German Society of Cinematographers), and ISC (Indian Society of Cinematographers). These join long-standing supporters such as AFC, ASC, BSC, CNSC, CSI, and more.
Highlights from the 2023 event can be viewed in the 2024 teaser video. Colorists, production companies, and facilities are encouraged to submit their nominations when entries open on May 1, 2024, with the final deadline for submissions on July 31, 2024.
