Hollywood icon Michael Douglas, awarded the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Film Festival of India’s closing ceremony, highlighted cinema’s unique ability to unite people. The event concluded with Germany’s “Endless Borders” winning the Golden Peacock Award for Best Film, and “Panchayat” Season Two, directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, securing the inaugural Best OTT Series Award.
Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant presented the award to Douglas, known for films like “Wall Street” and “The American President,” who emphasized cinema’s role in promoting our shared humanity. Expressing gratitude, Douglas remarked on the festival’s significance in reminding us of the magic of moviemaking, emphasizing cinema’s power to unite and transform. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Information and Broadcast Anurag Singh Thakur for the honor, underscoring the global language of cinema’s meaningfulness in today’s world. The 79-year-old actor paid tribute to Satyajit Ray as a world-class filmmaker, representing not only the triumphs of the Indian film industry but also cross-cultural artistic expression, expressing humility and honor in joining a prestigious group of past award recipients.
