Janam TV, a new private channel in Malayalam run by top film director Priyadarshan, was launched recently in Thiruvananthapuram. The channel has made Vizrt’s graphics technology an integral component of its operations. It has deployed Vizrt virtual graphics, which enables virtualisation in real time. Viz One, its media asset management tool, manages all content in a central repository, which allows the editors to produce video files for broadcast, mobile, and web in one seamless workflow.
“The adoption of some of the pioneering technologies makes Janam TV technically advanced. In fact, Viz One is being introduced in India for the first time,” said Mohammed Nissar, technical director, RGB Broadcasting, one of the leading broadcast system integrators in the country. Likewise, Viz Virtual Studio offers a scalable, open and complete tool set for virtual studio production. The advantages of opting for a virtual studio clearly includes cost savings associated with hard sets, maintenance and the flexibility to change the look of individual shows rather easily.
Moreover, Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, has provided Janam TV with an end-to-end solution supporting the channel from ingest to production to final playout. Janam TV currently has regional news bureaus in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode and New Delhi besides district bureaus all over Kerala. Additionally, the channel has representatives in major cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. The broadcaster relies on the Harmonic Spectrum MediaCenter media server with integrated storage for ingest of content, including a number of bureau feeds acquired using the Harmonic Ellipse 3100 contribution encoder and ProView 7100 integrated receiver-decoder (IRD), stream processor and transcoder.
