Custom Consoles reports the completion of a large Module-R production control desk for the Geneva headquarters of an internationally active service organisation. Designed and supplied in partnership with Swiss broadcast systems integrator Visuals, the new desk consists of a wing-shaped corner unit for use by a team of three operators. The Module-R is popular enough that it also features in the one of Europe’s longest established television and radio broadcasters and also production suites for NEP Worldwide in Netherlands.
“The project is essentially an expansion of a production resource which we completed for this customer in Q1 2020. It includes the integration of a new studio together with its dedicated control gallery. Module-R proved highly successful for the earlier installation so was the logical choice for this enhancement. Our customers recognise and appreciate the ergonomic excellence and long working life of Module-R, including the ability to accommodate equipment and all related cabling inside the desk. They also like the easy access Module-R allows for routine technical maintenance. As system integrators, we appreciate the versatility Module-R offers in terms of size and shape plus the modern styling of the completed structure. The desks are also future proof as they can be modified by changing or adding specific sections at any time during their long working life.” comments Peter Sullivan, Visuals’ Broadcast Systems Project Manager.
The desk is structured as a dual bay central section joining a four-bay left wing and three-bay right wing. A Newtek vision switcher is embedded in the the central section worktop, augmented by two 4U high sloping-front equipment pods. The left wing is assigned to camera control and graphics with a 4U high equipment pod spanning each bay. The right wing is assigned to audio production, including a Yamaha QL1 audio mixer, dynamic processors and studio/gallery communications. Ten 24 inch video display screens are mounted along the rear of the desk in a four plus two plus four configuration. Front and rear worktops are finished in grey-iron coloured Marmoleum with black PVC edging and grey side panels. The desk is supported by six silver anodised extruded aluminium legs with black floor skids.
A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, Custom Consoles’ Module-R series allows aesthetically attractive and long-life broadcast control-room furniture to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desktop-level pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity.
The Module-R product range includes high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, corner desk sections in 90, 45, 30 or 15 degree angles with integral worktops, slide-out keyboard drawers, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, 19 in storage pedestals and 27U equipment bays.
Custom Consoles’ Module-R Lite variant was introduced for use in latest-generation IT-based studios where long-reach worktops are unnecessary. The front to back depth of Module-R Lite is a more compact 95 cm than the 120 cm depth of Module-R.
