Streaming giant Netflix is reportedly set to enter the Indian market in 2016. This launch will be part of the company’s aggressive international expansion strategy through which it intends to launch streaming services in 200 countries over the next two years.
While Netflix spokespersons have not confirmed the news yet, media reports have cited that the service is expected to roll out in the end of 2016. Netflix is currently available in more than 50 countries and has over 62 million subscribers globally. Securing new users in international markets is the key agent of growth for the company. If Netflix hits Indian market, service providers like Hooq, Hotstar, Ditto TV and Eros Now might be in for a tough competition. The Indian streaming market is in its infancy, but has the potential to grow in manifold ways.
The ever growing rate of mobile and internet users in India is one of the potential reasons why VOD service giants are aiming to penetrate Indian markets at this point of time. According to reports India has about a 970 million mobile subscriber base which is second only to China that has 1.27 billion subscribers.
