The Headend-in-the-Sky (HITS) project Benchmark Broadcast Systems integrated and implemented for NXT Digital is not a typical end-to-end monitoring system, and that is exactly why it is such a hit, pun unintended. It was designed keeping 24×7 operability and ease of use as primary considerations with built-in appropriate redundancy in the design to ensure high availability.
The system included off-air monitoring of more than 500 FTA and pay TV channels as well as monitoring of 10 TV and five radio channels broadcast from their facility. The splitters, analysers and multiviewers used in the facility are seamlessly linked through network switches and use a Network Management System as the backbone of the solution. This enabled constant checking of all parameters and any deviations are immediately brought to the attention of the operators through visual, audio and email alerts.
There is also a talkback intercom system linking the major operational areas of the facility. With this service in place, NXT Digital can supply MSOs and LCOs with over 300 cable channels, thereby driving faster conversion from analog to digital mode.
