Sony delivers full 4k production live from luxembourg to amsterdam over IP | Sony, BCE (Broadcasting Centre Europe) and Level 3 Communications last month demonstrated a full 4K production,
4with a frame rate of 50p, delivered live over IP. The broadcast was captured in Ultra High Definition using Sony’s PMW-F55 camera at BCE’s live production studio in Luxembourg and screened as part of Sony’s keynote speech at IBC 2014, taking place almost 250km away at the IBC Venue in Amsterdam with a two-frame delay. The signal is taken out of an F55 camera into a SDI-IP converter board and piped to Level 3’s content delivery network. Signal quality is managed by a software layer called IP Live System Manager. “Sony is today marking the latest milestone in the future of AV and IP-based live production, showing that live production over IP has the capability to deliver 4K signals with minimal latency, quality drop or compromise in operations,” said Hiroshi Yamauchi, senior manager at Sony Professional Solutions Europe.
